It is with shock that I read a comment (and by someone not even willing to give his or her name) that the voting has been fixed.

This is taking (for me personally) all the fun out of the whole process. We have tried to make it as open and transparent as possible and if we wanted our favourite to win, we would have kept the voting totals a secret until the end of the voting in each category.

We are human and have personal favoruites, and we make no excuses for that. But I can assure you that in some categories my own personal favourite came last.

In especially the duet category - now that the voting is closed, I can reveal the following:

Most of the committee thought before the voting started that ROMANZ would win. I personally would have betted on it, seeing that they are 4 people and so 4 who could have promoted themselves for votes. With PATRICIA being in 3 different duets, it would have been very hard to do any promoting for a spesific entry, as which one would have fans support, so it was left to the 3 guys to muster support for the duet they are in.

I myself had an interest in the NADIA and HUGO duet seeing that I wrote the AFRIKAANS lyrics for the song. So if I would have wanted the voting to be fixed, I would have made sure this duet wins.

I personally encourages each of the participants to promote themselve, to get people to vote, I send out almost 500 E-mails myself to EUROVISION organizations and different countries to ask them to encourange their members to vote for a song. Especially when I saw someone was geting hardly any votes, I would E-mail them again/ Once again, I will take the ROMANZ case. I personally did several E-mails to one of their members (unfortunately I have only contact with one of the 4). But he never even adknowledged these E-mails.

Again, in the case of the SELECT artists, I wrote to several SELECT staff to ask them to encourage and promote their artists.

EURO STAR, and I pride myself in that fact, has it as their mission to LEVEL the playing fields and if it appears lobsided, then it is the wonderful control certain artists took charge of their campaigns and others just fail to do anything. And I for one, is happy if it pays off for certain artists.

I give out a challage to this anynomous E-mailer writer - you can write to me directly and mention the name of the duo or artist who you voted for. Although I am not an expert on the computer programme, I can say myself that I made several errors in voting - but it always informed me exactly what mistake I had made. Once you did everything correct, a few minutes later a CONFIRMED E-mail came. All votes not confirmed, were disqualified. It is important for the system to see that someone did not sit and vote 100 times for the same song.

EURO STAR is a new concept and when we started this, we had no idea what it will lead to, but it has surprised all of us and the fact that we allowed everybody to even give comments, was our way to show we have nothing to hide and we want it to be as fair as possible and serve our initial purpose - to EXPOSE SOUTH AFRICAN artists to the EUROVISION way of competition. Of course there will be joy and sorrow, this is always part and parcel of a competition where there are WINNERS and LOSERS.

Lyk my hier stem die mense vir 'n persoonlikheid of individu ek sal aanneem mens luister na al die liedjies en maak dan die besluit watter een is die mooiste volgens jou smaak en watter twee kunstenaars se stemme pas die beste bymekaar.Dit is nie IDOLS soos op TV nie, waar die beoordelaars die kunstenaars beoordeel volgens hul voorkoms en persoonlikheid nie.
Aan die ander kant wat gaan dit in elk geval vir die kunstenaars beteken t.o.v hul loopbane.Gaan hulle in die koerant,tydskrif,TV verskyn gaan daar 'n funksie wees waar die toekennings uitgedeel gaan word.

hoe interesant is die site nie- ek vergeet skoon van die kunstenaars en stel meer belang in die katterigheid van die voters - wil myself dood lag! Nooit in my lewe gedink die bedryf is so nasty nie. Ek moet ook erken - ek sou graag vir 2 liedjies wou vote -maar mag n mens? Ek ken nie juis vir Nadia en Hugo nie,maar al gehoor van Hugo wat n pragtige mens binne/buite/stem en persoonlikheid het. Ek luister nie juis afrikaans nie,maar sou graag vir George ook wou stem,maar jammer my skat!

I agree that there seems to be a problem with the voting. My son has voted and in 24 hours has received no email response. I don't think that the votes will reveal a true figure.

I am writing this in ENGLISH to that everybody can understand it.

It is my first comments to the website since the EURO STAR awards started.

No single artist nominated himself or herself - they were selected by me and 4 other people living in KAZAKHSTAN, NORWAY, THE UNITED KINGDOM and THE NETHERLANDS and they nwere taken from all artists who have done songs in the last 2-3 years.

We did not just concentrate on NEWCOMERS - although this is an ideal oppourtunity for them like it was proven by PRISCILLA SMITH who has won her category without a CD release a yet.

DEMO recordinsgs were also considered. EURO STAR is about REWARDING people who do EUROVISION related songs. Even STEVE HOFMEYR was considered but his euro related song is in ENGLISH and we concentrated on AFRIKAANS songs.

So KOBUS, SHAUN and GEORGE were not there because they are new, they are there because they recorded EUROVISION songs.

And the comment over DANA WINNER - nobody claimed her as AFRIKAANS - she is BELGIUM and we know it but she sang in AFRIKAANS and EURO RELATED SONGS and so she qualified. Two more BELGIUM artists will appear in categories 6 and 7 coming on line next week -LAURA LYNN and CHRISTOFF DE BOLLE. They too qualify because they sing in AFRIKAANS. In fact we have artists from RUSSIA, SLOVENIA, POLAND and SWEDEN all wanting to record in AFRIKAANS to be considered for the second EURO STAR.

The only criteria were:
1 - songs 2-3 years old
2 - have a EURO connection
3 - be in AFRIKAANS
4 - in the 2 last categories were we look at ORIGINAL songs, only artists qualified who have done euro songs or are busy with them for their new CD's.

EURO STAR, like EUROVISION, is a SONG CONTEST, so it is the song not the singer that is important. We do not have a category BEST NEW COMER or BEST MALE VOCALIST - it is all SONG categories!

I hope this makes it clear for those - we at EURO STAR are extremely happy with the outcome so far and those artists who do not perform well enough have just themselves to blame.

Ek is Hugo Nieuwoudt. Nadia Louw het my n wonderlike geleentheid gegee die dag toe sy my gevra het of ons n duet saam kan doen. Ek voel geeerd om saam met haar te kan sing. Almal van ons wat genomineer is, is geseen met n wonderlike talent van God af. Ek dink nie dis nodig dat ons "voters" die pragtige talent en geleentheid wat ons gegee is "lelik" maak nie. Ek het nou vir die eerste keer op die site gegaan en is verbaas oor die ondersteuning. Dankie almal! Almal van ons werk BAIE hard en die bedryf is moeilik, maar ek gun elkeen van die deelnemers die geleentheid om te wen, want ALAML is sangers met uitsonderlike stemme. Kom laat ons mekaar se smaak, styl en liedjie respekteer. Sterkte aan almal wat deelgeneem het.

Patricia neem glad nie deel daarin om stemme te gaan werf nie. Ek (Kobus), Shaun en Georges is op ons eie om stemme te gaan werf. Patricia het haarself ontrek omdat sy nie ons al 3 kan bevoordeel in die kompitisie nie. Dus soos ek reeds genoem het is ons net saam ons ondersteuners om stemme te werf. Sterkte weereens aan almal wat Genomineer is. Julle almal is AWESOME :)

Die nominasies (kategorie) gaan oor nuwe kunstenaars en hul duette - nou ja Kobus, Shaun en George is nuwelinge en hul duette met Patricia is genomineer. Ek dink dit is 'n wonderlike geleentheid vir al ons jong sangers. Ek is seker hulle het almal baie hard gewerk om te kom waar hulle nou is. Voorspoed en sukses vir julle almal.
