Bio
Laura Tesoro was born on 19 August 1996. Laura is a multi-talented performer: she sings, dances, acts and presents. This Belgian with Italian roots inherited the showbiz gene from her parents, who were both musical artists.
Laura was familiar from an early age with castings and auditions. At the age of eight she started with a guest role in Witse, and later appeared also in Annie (2008) and Domino (2012). In 2010 she took part in the third edition of ketnetpop. In 2012 she made her first appearance in the TV soap Familie as Charlotte, quitting the role in 2014 to focus on her music career and other plans. She appeared in 73 episodes of the series. In 2015 she also appeared in series Altijd Prijs playing Julie Aerts. In 2014 Laura has competed in he Voice van Vlaanderen where she finished as runner-up. She competed in the team of Koen Wauters, who supports her in various other music projects, and she has appeared as guest act in Clouseau Centraal concert in Sportpaleis. In August 2014 has released her first single Outta Here, which has reached 23rd place in Ultratop chart. In 2015 she has released her second single Funky Love. Uptempo pop music with a layer of funk: according Laura, it's the genre that suits her. Laura had a busy summer in 2015. The party band Level 6, in which she is the singer, made about forty live performances, including appearance at the Ghent Festivities.
Laura loves up-tempo pop, with a dash of funk and soul. Her favourite artists are Bruno Mars, Michael Jackson, Beyoncé and Stevie Wonder. Laura's Eurovision number What's The Pressure is exactly the sort of song she loves to listen to and sing. "What's The Pressure has an old-school Motown/funk feel, but in a modern, urban act. It's catchy and feel good, thanks to its strong bassline and brass section. The act is a combination of singing and dancing, both from me and from my backing singers, so that makes for an energetic performance. The song has a very strong message. It's about how the world around you is so crazy, and about how you feel under so much pressure, but that in the end you just have to stop worrying about stuff and just do what makes you happy". 
"What's The Pressure" has been co-written by Belgian pop-star Selah Sue alongside her ex-drummer Louis Favre. It was further reworked by Wouter Vander Vreken (producer of Bandits and one of people behind Belgian 2012 entry "Would You"). The song was completely finished in London by Peter Gordeno, a British songwriter, producer, and since 1998 the permanent keyboardist of Depeche Mode. "What's the pressure" is about the fact that a lot of people try to live up to expectations, but sometimes you just have to let it go, do what you want and be what you want. It's important to tell the truth to yourself in everything you do. My song sounds funky, with some pieces of soul here and there, and it's of course uptempo!
Interview
Our next guest at ESCKAZ interview sessions is the representative of Belgium Laura Tesoro. "It's all very exciting. The Eurovision song contest is a great opportunity to show my song to a lot of people. It's a big honour to represent my country, and I want to make them proud", young singer says about her upcoming ESC participation. Laura explains that all candidates for the national preselection Eurosong have been invited by the team of organizers. "But I'm very happy that they thought about me", she adds. At the Eurovision in Stockholm she will perform the song "What's The Pressure", which she describes as "an uptempo, funky pop song with a message: you need to stop worrying about what others think and just be yourself!". "What's The Pressure" was written by famous Belgian songwriter/performer Selah Sue. "But we haven't met each other", admits Laura. "I picked her song because I liked the lyrics and the vibe of it. After that, I reworked the song myself in the studio. It was fun that I got to work on the song myself too and add some changes to make it more a "Laura" song".
The song has been slightly reworked after the national final. "The changes are very little: I recorded two sentences again and the last few notes in the song are different. But the lyrics and the melody all stayed the same", the singer explains. We have asked if there is a chance for more versions or remixes: "Right now I don't have any plans like that: I just want to focus on bringing this version of my song the best I can in Stockholm", Laura responds. Recently she has released the music video for her song and she says: "It was very very fun to make it. I will be dancing in the video and I have some amazing dancers standing beside me too". Speaking about stage presentation, she says that it will be based on what we have seen in the finals of Belgian preselections. "It will be the same style, but it won't be the same dance or the same clothes. It won't be the same backing dancers in Stockholm as in our Belgian preselections. In Stockholm, I will have backing singers who can dance as well. As for the outfit, well I have it already in my head and people are designing that outfit right now. But to know what that outfit will be, you will have to wait a bit longer!".
Asked what is her aim for the competition, Laura says: "I want to make Belgium proud and give a great performance. And of course I hope to get to the finals on Saturday". She explains that she is very busy right now with preparations. "I am following singing classes to improve even more, and of course we have to think about the choreography for Stockholm, finish the designs for the clothes... I want everything to be perfect on stage in Stockholm. For me, all the rehearsals and preparations are not too hard, because I want to keep practicing and getting better". At the same time, she says that unfortunately there are no plans for any international promotional visits before the contest. "I want to take my time to prepare for the big contest and make sure that everything is perfect on stage". 
Laura says she has heard a few songs competing at the Eurovision this year and found them all very good. "But I don't want to look all the competing songs up, I also want to have a surprise in Stockholm and hear the songs there for the first time", she adds. Speaking about her all time Eurovision favourites, she mentions Euphoria by Loreen: "It's a very good song and the act was amazing". In regards to her plans after the Eurovision, Laura says: "I want to focus on Stockholm right now. We are talking with some record labels, but most likely we will only have concrete plans after Stockholm". Finally, her message to the readers is: "Hi everyone, thank you so much for reading this interview and for wanting to get to know me better. I hope that you will like my performance in Eurovision, and maybe I will see some of you in Stockholm!"

At the Eurovision Song Contest Laura Tesoro will be performing a slightly modified version of her song "What's The Pressure". Right now she is putting finishing touches to it in London. She has been brought to London by her producer Peter Goredeno. The decision to work on the improvement of the entry was made by Laura herself.
Monday after Eurosong final has been busy day for Laura. "It was just a crazy day! After 2 hours and 45 minutes of sleep, I had to be at VRT already at 7. From MNM to Radio 2, interiews, photoshoots, from Ketnet to Van Gils. In every interview I'm doing, I'm beginning to realize slowly anyway: I will be going to Stockholm to represent Belgium!! Wow!! I would still like to thank the whole team behind me who made this whole adventure possible! Also, thank to you again, everyone, for all the support and votes and sweet messages! Merci!".
In the morning Laura had time to celebrate reaching the top spot in iTunes download charts. Then she had appeared on De Grote Peter Van de Veire Ochtendshow on MNM Radio where she talked about her excitement from winning the competition, presented her song "What's The Pressure" and got the opportunity to listen for the first time to entries from Albania and Ireland. Preselection
Belgian Dutch language broadcaster VRT has chosen it's Eurovision Song Contest entry through national preselection process Eurosong 2016. This year Eurosong represented a musical journey of five young talented individuals who are guided in their artistic development. VRT was working with the specialists from different fields to get a strong candidate with a good voice and a catchy song. Olivier Goris, Eén network manager: "VRT will not only get a top act to Stockholm. We also want to help the candidates to make a big step in their artistic development. Eurosong 2016 is a completely new project. It is an investment in a hopefully long and successful future of young musical talent in Flanders - and perhaps beyond"
Immediately after the end of the Eurovision 2015 in Vienna, VRT has confirmed that it would like to host a public selection centring around 5 acts in 2016 inviting interested performers to apply. The chosen ones have been accompanied professionally in their musical and artistic development: on several fronts, such as singing, performance and act. The intensive coaching has begun and the further monitoring and advising the talent will also continues after Eurosong. For that Eurosong was collaborating with a team of music experts:
The so-called A&R team (Artist and Repertoire team) consisted of music experts from the VRT (Gerrit Kerremans - general music coordinator; Els Germonpré - music manager of Eén, Hans Snijders - music manager of MNM and others), accompanied by Christopher Cocquyt who assumes the role of A&R consultant. For almost a year the team has been looking for young talent. Young artists worked together with writers and producers from home and abroad. Christopher Cocquyt, manager of, among other Gabriel Rios, Novastar and Selah Sue coordinated their musical course. Vocal coaching they received from Lady Linn, media training from Geena Lisa. They worked under the choreograpic act with Ish Ait Hamou from So You Think You Can Dance fame. Songwriting and vocal technique, stage presence and dealing with the media: it's all part if you want to rank well in the extremely demanding conditions of the Eurovision Song Contest.

The candidates: 
Adil Aarab (born 1990). Started performances as a kid with his three brothers. At the age of 17, reached top 10 of Idool 2007 show. A year later he took part in Can You Duet project. After several years of studying, working and guitar lessons in Barcelona together with Abdel Kareem Asselman he launched the group Adil & AKA. Their music style is described as Rhythm & Soul. Recently, he has released a duet with Slongs Dievanongs "Doeda ogen dicht". Adil continues working in Barcelona as a singer-songwriter. In his writings he would like to talk about the energy and power of people. His songs also are soulful, with an impact of R & B and pop. He likes to engage in dialogue on stage with his audience until everyone gets goosebumps. And besides that stage, you catch him too often with a cup of good coffee he put up himself as an experienced barista.
Astrid Destuyver (born 1992)Astrid comes from a very musical family. Her mother graduated from the Lemmens Institute and taught piano, her father plays bass guitar. In Mid 80's her parents and Phase One together even participated in Humo's Rock Rally. Astrid also has been singing as long as she can remember. She never got singing lessons, but herself has developed an impressive voice, publishing covers on her Soundcloud- & YouTube channels. She has recorded with German D&B duo Submatik. Since 2012 she has been one of the regular singers of the collective AKS (Addicted Kru Sound). This summer they performed together at Couleur Café and Dour en Feest in het Park. Yet it is mainly online, where Astrid has made herself heard. In contrast to the stirring sounds of AKS, she describes her own music as rather sober with a touch of soul.
Tom Frantzis (born 1991)Tom's musical roots also reach deep. His great-grandfather was comedian, his grandfather played in a band, and Tom's father and uncle kept it on hard rock. They had success in the 70s and 80s and performed among others at Jazz Bilzen. Tom's father founded the Puissance, a shop specializing in acoustic guitars, Tom now operates. He combines that with a master's degree in communication sciences, and of course music. If there's no customers in the shop, he picks up his guitar and starts practising. If he is going off to work on his songs, he always has four guitars, a keyboard and a loop station to choose from. Tom is trained in classical piano. His father coached him on vocals and guitar, and Tom himself perfected in pop, jazz and gospel. He is a singer-songwriter and has a dozen self-produced songs. His lyrics are often autobiographical.

Amaryllis Uitterlinden (born 1983)Amaryllis is the most experienced singer of five. With mom and dad being actors, she also was regular behind the scenes of the theater world. At the age of sixteen she participated in the Grand Prix of Bart Peeters. After a year studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Amaryllis rolled from one job to another; from music theater to musical, telenovela, film and songs. Like Laura she also played Annie as a child, and in 2009 she was Pippi in the musical "Pippi zet de boel op stelten!" of Stany Crets. Then she clinched the main role in the movie Brabançonne for which won Ensor as the best actress. In 2009 she released her debut album "The beauty of it all out". She also sang a duet with Ozark Henry. Music for her is equally dear as the theater: Amaryllis repeatedly stressed that both form an inseparable whole for her. With each song she wants to tell a story, and theatricality and dramatically Amaryllis will also incorporate this in her music.
On 9-13 December, candidates returned to MNM with one more cover session: Astrid Destuyver - 'King' and 'Take Shelter' (Years&Years), Adil Araab - Stole the show (Kygo ft. Parson James), Laura Tesoro - Shake It Off (Taylor Swift), Amaryllis Uitterlinden - This Is What It Feels Like (Armin Van Buuren), Tom Frantzis - Keep Your Head Up (Ben Howard).
Eurosong 2016 included 3 shows: on Sundays 3, 10 and 17 of January at 20:30 broadcasted on Eén. It is not a classic knockout: First show introduced the artists (showcase their singing skills, stage presence and personality) and show how they work with their coaches, during this show candidates will perform cover version of Eurovision song. Second show for the first time introduced their entries. On 17 January a live final took place when all entries were presented live with the choreographed acts. Belgian representative at the Eurovision Song Contest was chosen by 10 international juries of experts from various other Eurovision participating countries and the audience. Shows were hosted by Peter Van de Veirs. Fans could follow the latest news on snapchat channel een.be. Official hashtag: #eurosong, all photos tagged with it on instagram were shown on an electronic wall behind the participants sofa.
Adil Araab - Hold me now (Johnny Logan): "The song is emotional and fragile, with sensitive lyrics and content I like. I'm going to make the song more Adil-sound, yet keep it still intimate...".
Amaryllis Uitterlinden - Euphoria (Loreen): "In the quest for a good cover there is one question that is important to me: what song lends itself to really do my own thing, while I'm always looking for something that touches me, whether it is the music or lyrics".
Laura Tesoro - Dum tek tek (Hadise): "I like uptempo songs with the spirit and I really wanted dancers and show, that's why I chose this number, where I fully can let it go".
Astrid Destuyver - Everyway That I Can (Sertab): "It's a very well-known number, but both in melody and lyrics I will make a completely own version of it, yet everybody will still be able to recognize the song".
Tom Frantzis - Rhythm Inside (Loïc Nottet): "It is a modern song, and that appeals to me. It's very complicated in terms of lyrics and you can interpret it in different ways. The song has so much potential to trying making own version of it".
First Eurosong show had 984,772 viewers with a market share of 38.1%, second show scored 964.112 viewers. In 2014 Eurosong started with nearly 1.2 million viewers, and that figure remained almost unchanged through all 7 broadcasts. First part of the final broadcast attracted 978,112 (36,5%) viewers, lower than 1,383,045 viewiers (51,9%) in 2014.
Amaryllis - Kick The Habit. An atmospheric and richly arranged pop song with a story and an addictive chorus. Kick The Habit was written by Amaryllis herself. For the production she worked with multi-instrumentalist Reinhard Vanbergen, founder of Das Pop who did production work for bands like The Happy and School is Cool.
Tom - I'm Not Lost. Tom pulls out all the stops in this contemporary power-pop number. He's written the song together with Yves Gaillard, who wrote in the past for Kate Ryan and Hadise. Currently Gaillard has a big hit with I Can't Say No by Leah Rue. Luuk Cox, the producer is the man behind dance project Shameboy and collaborated with Stromae. He also knows what it's like to make a Eurovision hit, as the producer of Rhythm Inside by Loïc Nottet.
Astrid - Everybody aches. Astrid's fragile voice comes fully into its own in this contemporary combination of a soul-ballad and electronics. One of the writers, Niko Westelinck, wrote hits for Bandits who participated in Eurosong 2014. For the production Astrid sought assistance in Farhot, a German DJ / producer who also makes electronic music. He has already worked with Selah Sue and remixed many hits.
Laura - What's The Pressure. Laura is at her best with an energetic funk-pop song. The lyrics of the song are written by Belgian pop-star Selah Sue. She wrote the song along with her ex-drummer Louis Favre. Peter Gordeno's the producer. Gordeno is a British songwriter, producer, and since 1998 the permanent keyboardist of Depeche Mode.
Adil - In Our Nature. Adil brings a beautiful pop song with a message. Adil worked with Bas Kennis, a member of the Dutch band BLØF, who also produced In Our Nature. Will Knox also participated, he is a British singer-songwriter who co-wrote the hit album Layers by Dothan. And finally there's Joes Brands a sound engineer, producer and musician who worked in the past with Admiral Freebee and Adil's band Adil & AKA.
Short clips of entries, taking part in Belgian preselection Eurosong, were presented on 8 January in morning show De Grote Peter Van de Veire Ochtendshow on MNM radio. You can listen to them here. On the week before the final, artists have presented live acoustic versions of their entries on MNM radio: Astrid Destuyver - Everybody Aches, Adil Araab - In Our Nature, Laura Tesoro - What's The Pressure, Amaryllis Uitterlinden - Kick The Habit, Tom Frantzis - I'm Not Lost.
• Stijn Kolacny - For twenty years he captivates listeners around the world with the golden voices of "Scala". A unique project: an indie-rock choir that transforms classic rock songs into true hymns. Even Hollywood was already hooked. A movie "The Social Network" would not be the same without Scala's catchy cover of "Creep" (Radiohead).
• Alexander Rybak - Six years ago he broke the record for the highest ever score in the Eurovision Song Contest: he scored 387 points, 169 more than Iceland which finished second and almost 100 more than the previous record holders, Lordi. Since then he has also remained popular in Belgium, where last summer he appeared at the Antwerp pride.
• Tom Helsen - one of the most respected singer-songwriters of Belgium. In the end of 2011 he has almost retired from show business, but made a majestic come back in 2015 with the album 'Unbreakable'. Thanks to the soundtrack of a Portuguese TV series his song "Goodbye" became an international hit, earning him a record deal with guaranteed releases in Asia, Europe and South America.
• Beverly Jo Scott - BJ, as she likes to be called, grew up in Alabama but lived for a quarter century in Brussels. As a singer-songwriter, she released six albums, and in addition, co-wrote songs with greats like Trigger Finger, Black Box Revelation and Stan Van Samang. But above all she was the woman behind the success of Loïc Nottet in the Eurovision Song Contest last year, being his coach and "Rhythm Inside" co-writer.
• Hadise - After taking part in talent show 'Idol 2003', her debut album 'Sweat' had no less than five hit singles and in 2009 she finished fourth at the Eurovision Song Contest getting the best result that Flanders could have ever achieved, if Hadise was not representing Turkey at the contest. In her new homeland Hadise became the highest paid pop star. With 2.45 million followers she is also the most popular Belgian on Twitter after Eden Hazard. For the last five years she was a permanent judge on The Voice.
• Christer Björkman - For 15 years he is the organizer of the Swedish preselection show Melodifestivalen who had discovered such Eurovision winners as Loreen (2012) and Måns Zelmerlöw (2015). He is also contest producer for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm.
Clouseau (1991) with "J'aime la vie" (1986) and 2Fabiola feat. Loredana - "She's After My Piano" (Eurosong 2014) were guests of the 2nd show.

France - has given Belgium the highest number of 12 points from any country in history
Greece - since the introduction of the semifinal system, Greece never missed out on a place in the final
Each jury will be presented by a five music professionals.
Home viewers gave to the participants 120, 100, 80, 70 and 60 points and the same totals could be given by the international jury. After points were summed up, two superfinalists were determined. A winner out of two was selected by the televiewers solely.

Наша следующая гостья в интервью-сессиях ESCKAZ - представительницам Бельгии Лаура Тесоро. "Это все очень волнительно. Конкурс Евровидение - прекрасная возможность продемонстрировать мое творчество огромному количеству людей. Для меня большая честь представлять мою страну, и я хочу, чтобы все ее жители гордились мною", говорит юная исполнительница о своем предстоящем выступлении на конкурсе. Лаура говорит, что слышала несколько песен, принимающих участие в Евровидении этого года, и они все ей очень понравились. "Но я не хочу сейчас изучать досконально все участвующие песни, хочу, чтобы концерты в Стокгольме стали сюрпризом и для меня самой, и я услышала там все песни впервые", говорит она. Понедельник после финала Eurosong был посвящен промодеятельности. "Понедельник был просто сумасшедшим днем! После 2 часов и 45 минут сна, мне надо было уже быть на канале VRT в 7 утра. Из студии MNM в Radio 2, интервью, фотосессии, из Ketnet к Ван Гилсу. С каждым новым интервью, что я давала я начала постепенно понимать: Я отправлюсь в Стокгольм и буду представлять Бельгию!! Вау!! Я бы хотела еще раз поблагодарить всю свою команду, которая сделала это возможным! И спасибо всем вам, за вашу поддержку, голоса, и теплые сообщения! Мерси!".
С утра у Лауры появилась возможность отпраздновать то, что ее конкурсный трек "What's The Pressure" возглавил чарт iTunes Бельгии. Далее Лаура приняла участие в радио программе De Grote Peter Van de Veire Ochtendshow на MNM Radio, где она рассказала о своей радости от победы на конкурсе, представила слушателям свой конкурсный трек, и получила возможность впервые прослушать песни своих конкурентов из Албании и Ирландии. Национальный отбор
Бельгийский голландскоязычный вещатель VRT выбирал своего представителя посредством национального отборочного процесса Eurosong 2016. В этом году Eurosong представлял собой музыкальное путешествие пяти молодых талантливых исполнителей, которых сопровождали в их артистическом развитие их более опытные коллеги. Сразу же после окончания конкурса Евровидение 2015 в Вене, телеканал VRT подтвердил, что планирует провести открытый национальный отбор с участием 5 кандидатов, пригласив заинтересованных исполнителей подавать свои заявки. Над профессиональным развитием отобранных исполнителей по нескольким фронтам: пение, выступление и номер, будут работать специалисты. Интенсивная подготовка началась, и дальнейший мониторинг и помощь талантам также продолжились и после Eurosong. С этой целью, организаторы пригласили к сотрудничеству ряд музыкальных экспертов:
Так называемая A&R команда (занимающаяся артистами и репертуаром) состояла из музыкальных специалистов с самого VRT (Геррит Керреманс - общий музыкальный координатор, Эльс Гермонпре - музыкальный директор телеканала Eén, Ханс Снайдерс - музыкальный директор радио MNM и др), с которыми вместе в качестве A&R консультанта работает Кристоф Кокайт. На протяжении года команда занималась поиском молодых талантов. Артисты работали вместе с авторами песен и продюсерами из Бельгии и зарубежья. Кристоф Кокайт, помимо прочих являющийся директором Габриеля Риоса, Novastar и Селах Сью, координировал их музыкальное обучение. С ними также работали педагог по вокалу Lady Linn, медиа тренер Геена Лиза, и хореограф Иш Айт Хаму, известный по программе So You Think You Can Dance. Написание песен и вокальная техника, сценическая манера и общение со СМИ: все это необходимо для успешного выступления в чрезвычайно требовательных условиях конкурса Евровидение.

Адиль Аараб (родился в 1990). Начал выступления в детском возрасте вместе со своими тремя братьями. В 17 лет вошел в десятку лучших шоу Idool 2007, а год спустя принял участие в проекте Can You Duet. Каждое жюри будет представлено пяти музыкальными профессионалами.
Телезрители могли дать участникам 120, 100, 80, 70 и 60 баллов. Аналогичные баллы давало международное жюри. После суммирования баллов были определены два суперфиналиста, и среди них уже только зрители выбирали победителя.
